There are three main stages – research, editing and proofreading – to progressing a piece of work from an inspiration, a thought, an idea … and evolving through reflection and conceptualisation to find composition, form and structure for final submission or publication. These stages form a process. However, the process is not linear and there will also be repetitions of the process within each stage.
Research
locating information, delving, conducting literature review with aim to help build background knowledge for project or just to connect inspiration with conceptualisation
Editing
reviewing written material with aim to flagging, suggesting, querying, and marking up where needed to help towards preparing final draft.
Proofreading
marking up final draft with aim to locating inaccuracies including grammar, punctuation, spelling, omitted words, spacing and formatting, and typographical errors.
